The quadriceps are the large muscles on the front of the thigh, responsible for knee extension and hip flexion. They are the primary movers in squats, lunges, and leg presses.

The quadriceps femoris consists of four muscles: rectus femoris (crosses hip and knee), vastus lateralis (outer), vastus medialis (inner, the 'teardrop'), and vastus intermedius (deep). All four converge on the quadriceps tendon inserting into the patella.
